Roller sorting is a suitable way to filter out foreign bodies that have been introduced to batched parts during secondary processes such as plating and heat treatments. The parts are rolled between two rotating cylinders allowing foreign debris and alien components out of tolerance to fall out between the cylinders at various points. It is effective in sorting components of foreign bodies up to 250 ppm within selected parameters.
The process is generally used for screws, pins and clips – however it may not be the best process for all components depending on external physical features and BF CS Ltd will always review the process against the part to assess suitability.
